New Year, Same You

This time of year so many people are saying "new year, new you." But does the changing of the calendar really change anything?  Not really.  Do you feel any different now that it is 2018? Probably not.  It can be so frustrating too for us to mark these dates with promises about how we eat, exercise, or live our lives, only to fall back into the same old habits.  What can we even do about this?

Marking a Calendar Will Not Change Your Sinful Heart

I love reading Romans because it reminds me of the struggle we all face against the flesh.  I can promise until I am blue in the face about all that I will no longer do,  but the only real change that will take place is through Jesus Christ.  Listen to what Paul says in Romans 7:

"So I find this law at work:  When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.  For in my inner being? I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner to the law of sin at work within my members,"

Sounds pretty hopeless if you stop there.  So, let's keep reading

"What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?  Thanks be to God -- through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Jesus Christ is your Rescuer

If you have blown your new year, new you resolution already, don't sweat it.  Jesus Christ offers Himself to you and that is the only way to find freedom. He can change you no matter what the calendar says.

Enjoy this song from Rend Collective celebrating that!
